School of Health and Caring Professions
The Faculty of Health and Welfare Professions is located in Patras and it consists of the following five departments that are Applied Sciences of Health and/or Social Welfare:
- Department of Social Work
- Department of Nursing
- Department of Speech & Language Therapy
- Department of Physical Therapy (located in Aegio)
- Department of Optics - Optometry (located in Aegio)
The Departments provide state-of-the-art academic programs of study and the completion of a degree by their graduates leads to respective recognized professional rights and professional licensure.
As of the spring semester of the academic year 2015-16, three Departments of the Faculty co-organise and operate a multidisciplinary Postgraduate Program titled “Rehabilitation Sciences” with three directions (corresponding to the departments): Speech & Language Therapy, Nursing and Physical Therapy.
Finally, it is noteworthy that the Departments of the Faculty offer, via their educational and clinical function, corresponding free services to citizens and public institutions.

The Department of Physical Therapy was established in 2003 as a branch department of the Western Greece University of Applied Sciences (former T.E.I. of Patras) and both teaching facilities and academic and administrative services are located in the city of Aigion.
The Department of Speech and Language Therapy of Western Greece University of Applied Sciences (former TEI of Western Greece) operates since 1996, in the former T.E.I. of Patras, and is the first Department to offer a four-year University Degree in Greece, providing scientific and clinical education in the scientific and clinical field of Speech and Language Therapy. Teaching, academic and administrative services take place in the Patras location.
